In 1965, Over 50 years ago, this water
tower was built for the fire department
at Wanapum Dam, which is located along
the Columbia River in the state of
Washington.
The water tower was made of 20 foot long
clear ‘wet’ redwood, which had been standing
for over 40 years. There was some water
stain within the grain (Spalting) which made
this wood very unique. The water tower was
eventually taken down and replaced with a
new one made from steel. This wonderful
redwood was then reclaimed.
I've acquired a fair amount of this beautiful
wood to make my canoes with. It’s very light
in weight and nice to bend into shape. As you
will see from the photos, it makes a
magnificent canoe! To see a larger image,
